Georgian star extends Wasps stay
NEWS: Experienced Georgian prop Zurabi Zhvania extended his present contract with English Premiership side Wasps for another season.
The 27-year-old – who has impressed on the Test scene scoring 11 tries in 37 appearances – will be tied to Wasps till the end of the 2019/20 campaign although the early part will be probably spent in Japan at the World Cup.
Dai Young, Wasps Director of Rugby, said Zhvania had done a superb job since arriving last year to replace the injured Matt Mullan after a seven-year spell with French outfit Stade Francais.
“Obviously losing Matt Mullan last year to injury was a blow but Zurabi has come in and done a tremendous job,” Young told the club website.
“He is a big, physical player who has consistently performed at the top level and I have no doubt he’ll play a key part in our scrum moving forward.”
Zhvania, who during his time at Stade helped them win the domestic title in 2015 and the European Challenge Cup in 2017, said he had settled in well and enjoyed the atmosphere there.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Wasps so far and I’ve made a lot of good friends,” said Zhvania, who has played 15 times for Wasps.
“There is a good culture at the club and I can’t wait to try and help the team push on to try and achieve success in the near future.”
