The hooker, who was part of the 2013/14 Premiership winning team, has put pen to paper on a new multi-year deal to keep him at Franklin’s Gardens.

Haywood is the fifth Saints player to have agreed a contract renewal since the start of the season.

“Saints is my home and I’m very happy here,” said Haywood.

“I didn’t have to think twice about extending. Every time I pull on the jersey, I feel very honoured to represent this great Club. It means so much to me to run out at Franklins Gardens on matchday.

“The direction that Chris and the rest of the coaching staff are taking Saints is very exciting to be part of and I am confident that the squad can go on and achieve great things together.”

An academy graduate, Haywood joined Saints aged 18 years old and made his senior debut in 2011. Since then the hooker has made 210 appearances in Black, Green and Gold and has cemented himself as one of the team’s core leaders.

“We are delighted to announce that Mikey will continue to play his rugby with Saints,” said Saints Director of Rugby, Chris Boyd.

“Since coming through the Academy system, he has established himself as a senior member of the playing group.

“He always gives absolutely everything he’s got, both in training and on matchday – you would be hard-pressed to find a more hardworking and dedicated player.

“Mikey is part of an exciting crop of hookers in our squad who are all pushing each other to improve every day.”
