Kruis' lucky escape

Saracens lock George Kruis will be available for the start of England's Six Nations campaign, despite a three-week ban being slapped on him by the Rugby Football Union.

In a statement the RFU said Kruis, who was cited for making a dangerous tackle contrary to Law 10.4.e in the 62nd minute of the match between Gloucester and Saracens on January 9, was banned from Tuesday until February 2.

He can play again on February 3.

The 24-year-old will miss his side's European Rugby Champions Cup games against Munster and Clermont, but will be available for England's Six Nations opener against Wales in Cardiff on February 6.

Kruis, capped four times by England, was cited for a tip tackle on David Halaifonua during Saracens' 23-24 loss last Friday.

The lock pleaded guilty in front of the RFU disciplinary hearing in London.

An injury crisis allowed Kruis to make his England debut during the November internationals and he featured as a replacement against New Zealand, South Africa, Samoa and Australia.

The RFU disciplinary panel consisted of Jeremy Summers (chairman), Meg Gardiner and Inigo Churchill.
