Louw backing Bath to go deep
Springbok and Bath flank Francois Louw is convinced his side can maintain their challenge on multiple fronts – even with some of their leading lights set for international duty.
Last weekend, Bath continued their march in the European Challenge Cup, picking up a fifth straight victory and their progress to the knock-out stages has been rubber-stamped.
Their progress in the Anglo-Welsh Cup remains smooth, having won their first two matches, while they are well-placed in the Premiership in third after coming out the other side of a treacherous run against Harlequins, Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers with one win, one loss and one draw.
They've already secured the A-League crown and further silverware remains a distinct possibility – although they could well be without England new boys George Ford and Anthony Watson during the Six Nations.
On Thursday however, Bath face Bordeaux Begles and Mike Ford has again selected a strong side – and Louw, who missed a chunk of the season due to international commitments with the Springboks – is convinced they have the strength in depth to cope.
"We have to go into this match, looking to improve and thinking we can get better, that's what we need to do for every game," said Louw, who was rested for last weekend's win over Newport Gwent Dragons.
"We cannot get complacent, they are difficult matches but matches we believe we can win and we have to maintain are standards throughout.
"There's a commitment to rotation this season and I think it's working and it means that we can compete in all competitions.
"We want to be successful in all the competitions that we take part in and I think we have the strength to do that but we know we have to continually try and improve."
Ford has featured in all of Bath's Premiership matches this season and is the league's highest points scorer but rather than lament his expected absence, Louw was full of praise for the 20-year-old flyhalf.
"He's been a fantastic player for us this season, he has really stepped up his game for us," added Louw.
"His performances have been excellent and I'm just very pleased for him that he has been called up and I'm confident he will do well for England.
"The same goes for Anthony Watson. He's another young guy who has come in and he has the attributes to be a great player."
