New Year cheer for Gloucester
Ross Moriarty insists everyone at Gloucester is determined to give the Kingsholm faithful something to cheer about before the New Year.
In their final home game before Christmas, the Cherry and Whites welcomed arch rivals Bath to Kingsholm looking to give their fans some early festive cheer.
However, Bath played the role of the Grinch as Matt Garvey scored two late tries for a 39-16 victory, their biggest ever in the Premiership at Kingsholm.
All is not lost for Gloucester fans however as they still have one more fixture to play at home before 2014 is out when they welcome Wasps on Sunday.
And after believing Bath were somewhat fortunate to make the short trip home with a 23-point victory at the weekend, back row forward Moriarty is determined to give Cherry and White fans plenty to celebrate when Wasps come to town.
"I don't feel like the final scoreline against Gloucester reflected how we played necessarily," the 20-year-old said.
"They scored two late tries, one from a driving line out and a jammy try in my opinion and that obviously flattered the scoreline late on.
"But credit to them, they took their chances and we didn't. We had plenty of possession and territory but we just didn't make the most of it and that is something we need to work on.
"We had a lot of possession but we need to be more ruthless with it. We need to use the ball better and that is something we are working on.
"So there were definitely some positives from the game with Gloucester but we gave away too many penalties and you can't expect to win a game when you let them kick 24 points like we did."
Despite the defeat leaving Gloucester down in ninth in table, the outcome is not as gloomy as it may seem with Moriarty and co just six points off an automatic European spot.
And with Premiership action coming thick and fast over the festive period, Moriarty knows that one win can make all the difference.
"The league is very tight this year because we are down in ninth but the two teams above us are Harlequins and Leicester which shows you how tough it is this season," he added.
"One win can get you right back amongst it so we know we can still have a season to enjoy and we are still confident of being there or thereabouts come the end of the season."
