Newcastle player takes swipe at Jasper Wiese

REACTION: Newcastle Falcons loose forward Carl Fearns is clearly not a fan of Springbok No.8 Jasper Wiese.

Fearns took a swipe at Wiese for the latter’s poor disciplinary record.

Wiese was given a two-game ban this week after he notched up three yellow cards this season.

He received his third yellow card of the 2021/2022 Premiership season during his team’s 28-26 away win at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day against Bristol Bears, contrary to RFU Regulation 19.

He will now miss his team’s clashes against Newcastle on January 2 and Wasps a week later.

Fearns took to social media to share his feelings about the Springbok’s ban.

“That’s a shame, I fancied getting cleaned out with an elbow from the side,” Fearns tweeted.

A few people on Twitter suggested that Fearns’ tweet was disrespectful, but he defended himself.

“Respect? I’m about player welfare and keeping kids wanting to play our sport that’s opened doors for me that never would have been open,” Fearns said in one of his responses.

Jon Welsh incident

Kearns also mentioned former Newcastle Falcons prop, Jon Welsh, in another response.

In March, during Newcastle’s last visit to Welford Road, Welsh suffered a dislocated shoulder after an illegal clear-out at a ruck by Wiese.

Wiese was only punished with an on-field penalty.

“Do you think it’s classy that Jon Welsh never played again?” Fearns said in response to another Twitter user’s comment.
