Runciman returning to Exiles

Scrumhalf Nick Runciman has re-joined Premiership newcomers London Welsh for a second spell after a season with Gloucester.

The 26-year-old Runciman made 81 appearances in three seasons for the Exiles, including scoring three tries, and helped the club twice reach the Championship semifinals.

Runciman played in the Exiles' 2010 semifinal defeat to Bristol at the Memorial Stadium, but missed the club's 2011 semifinal loss at the Cornish Pirates due to injury.

He joined Gloucester in 2011, making his debut against London Welsh in the Exiles’ pre-season win at Kingsholm.

Runciman went onto make 15 appearances for the Cherry and Whites, including two in the Heineken Cup, with his one try for the club coming against Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership.

Cheltenham-born Runciman originally came through the academy at Gloucester, before joining Worcester in 2005, where he spent the next three seasons. He scored a try on his Premiership debut for the Warriors against Newcastle Falcons at Sixways in 2005.

Runciman has represented England at Under-16, U18 and U21, as well as the Barbarians.

"I'm very pleased to be back – it feels like I've never been away," said Runciman. "It's a great place to play rugby, a great bunch of lads and I'm looking forward to playing under Lyn [Jones – head coach].

"I watched all of London Welsh's televised games last season and kept my eye on their results. It was great to see the boys win the Championship the way they did. It was testament to the professionalism of the lads and the coaching staff at the club.

"Gloucester definitely benefited my game. I feel fitter than I've ever been and my game management's improved, and hopefully I can add that to the London Welsh squad.

"The Premiership is a massive challenge – there are no easy games. We'll have to treat every game as a cup final, work hard and not switch off at any point during the season," he said.
