Seymour rallying seasoned Sharks

Sale Sharks captain Dave Seymour has called on the experienced core of the side to guide them out of their tricky situation in the Premiership.

The Sharks sit bottom of the table with just one win, against London Irish, so far this season and were made to pay for some missed kicks against London Wasps despite a spirited performance at the weekend as they were downed 25-18.

But while the results have not been going the way they would like at Sale they have a number of international caps in the squad from men such as Mark Cueto, Scotland's Richie Gray and Wales' Andy Powell.

And 28-year-old Seymour, who has been with the Sharks since 2009, insisted it was time for the older and more experienced heads to stand up and be counted.

"You look to your senior guys to help get you through. We're lucky – people like Mark Cueto, Dwayne Peel and Nick Macleod," he said.

"We're quite lucky there, with people like Andy Powell, who are still young but with loads of experience which is great.

"There's a number of guys who got through it last year and are part of the rebuilding process and the guys who have been here for four or five years – 10, in the terms of Cuets.

"They're the guys that have experienced that and are Sale Sharks through and through. Everyone needs to step up really and give 100 percent – we're the senior guys to rely on."

Sale fell victim to the break from the Premiership after their last league win as they were unable to build on the performance against Irish in November with 20 days until their next fixture – a 29-3 loss to Gloucester.

And Seymour admits stringing a couple of wins together could see the side turn the season on its head.

"Everyone is aware of the challenges ahead," he added. "Everyone is trying to find a bit extra – that's what we have to do.

"The buzzword can be momentum. It's amazing how after two or three wins, you can be in completely different place.

"That's a massive thing and we need to get a hold of that by getting a massive result this week, the following week and the week after that. If so, things start moving on pretty quickly.

"It's frustrating really, being in the position we're in, but we all know the only thing that's going to get us out of it is hard work."
