Sharks boss gets the axe

Sale coach Tony Hanks parted company with the Aviva Premiership club on Saturday following the club’s 45-9 thrashing against champions Saracens.

Sale chief executive Steve Diamond said in a statement Hanks had left with immediate effect after the Sharks conceded 30 points for a third game in a row at Edgeley Park on Friday.

“It has been a season of great change at Sale Sharks and I would like to thank Tony for his help in implementing that change,” Diamond said.

“The owners, directors, players and supporters all wish Tony well in the future. In the meantime our work continues.”

Hanks joined Sale in July last year after a previous stint as director of rugby at Wasps.

Sale are currently seventh in English rugby’s top-flight with an outside chance of qualifying for the European Cup.
