Ulster flyhalf goes into Exile
Ulster flyhalf Ian Humphreys will play for London Irish next season after agreeing a three-year deal with the Premiership club it was confirmed on Friday.
Humphreys, 30, who has played a key role in steering Ulster into this month’s European Cup final against Leinster, will join Exiles in time for pre-season training, a statement said.
“It is fantastic to have Ian on board for the next three seasons. He will bring with him a wealth of experience and leadership qualities,” said Irish rugby director Brian Smith.
“He is a constant threat with ball in hand and has a great ability to create space for his outside backs. He also has a fantastic kicking game.
“When I was previously at the club we tried to recruit Ian and Tomas O’Leary, and now we have a pair of Irish half-backs as good as any in Europe.”
Humphreys and O’Leary are among several new signings captured by Irish for next year, with the club already luring the likes of Leicester’s George Skivington and Gloucester’s Scott Lawson.
