“Sale Sharks is a club looking to go places and it’s a real privilege to be captain,” Ross said.

“Nothing changes, really. I’ll probably have to speak a little more. The guys will probably tell you I say a lot anyway!

“Hopefully, I can take the club to new heights. It’s an exciting time.”

Ross (27) joined the club from Stade Francais and started every Premiership game last season – one of three Sharks to do so.

Although South African-born, he is qualified for England and was a member of the training squad prior to the game against the Barbarians earlier this year.
