Wasps scoop a young Shark
London Wasps have signed England Under-20 utility back Tommy Bell who joins his brother Chris in the Wasps squad from their Premiership rivals Sale Sharks.
Having played for England at U16 and U18 level, Bell was called up to the national U20 squad earlier this year, starting at flyhalf in the Six Nations against Wales, while he has also just completed a hugely impressive season for Leeds Carnegie in the Championship where he was on loan, scoring 234 points in 21 appearances.
His outstanding goal-kicking and all round play saw him pick up the Leeds' Young Player of the Year award and the Supporters' Player of the Year award outlining his huge potential in the game.
Equally comfortable at fullback, flyhalf and inside centre, Bell is an exciting young talent and will add strength in depth across the Wasps backline.
Wasps Director of rugby Dai Young said: “"s a young English player with huge potential, we are delighted to welcome Tommy to the squad. He has impressed up at Leeds last season and he'll provide us with excellent options across the backline."
Bell commented: "I've really enjoyed my time at Sale Sharks and want to thank all of the academy staff who have helped me develop. Playing regularly this season in the Championship with Leeds has allowed me to kick-on, and I'm excited about joining up with Wasps this summer for the next phase of my career.
"For now though my focus is on the Junior World Championships – the training camp and our preparation have been good, so hopefully we can do England proud in South Africa."
