Wasps staying grounded

London Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young says his team is staying grounded ahead of Sunday’s Premiership game against Bath at Adams Park.

Young’s side go into the game on the back of a fine away win at London Welsh – the team’s first of the season – but the Wasps boss says nobody is getting too carried away with current league positions, with his side currently sitting fifth in the table.

“It’s obviously pleasing that we’re getting together some momentum now but as I have said to the players, you only have to look at the table to see how tight it all is.

“A couple of wins would keep you well in the top half but a couple of losses could put you right back down the table so there’s no-one getting carried away here.”

Wasps are unbeaten at Adams Park this season ahead of Bath’s visit, but with home visits to come later this season against the likes of Gloucester, Northampton and Saracens, there are some big challenges ahead.

“We have an incredibly tough-run in,” Young said.

“There’s no easy game in there and while it would be great to see a number of Wasps players representing England in the next few weeks; if we are going to lose players to international duty, it’s going to be quite tough for us to cope with given the size of our squad.

“We have an opportunity this Sunday against Bath to go into the league break in a good position so this really is a big game for us.”

“Bath are incredibly difficult to score tries again and are one of the top defensive sides in the league so we know what a challenge they will bring to Adams Park.

“They will be targeting this as a game to help them move up the table as well so we’ll be in for a real battle.”
