STAT ATTACK: SA players show Premiership how it's done...again
SPOTLIGHT: The Springbok coaches would have been happy with what they saw from a couple of South African players in the Premiership this past weekend.
One match stands out from the rest.
Springbok No.8 Jasper Wiese once again set the benchmark with his carries in Leicester Tigers’ 20-19 win over the Harlequins in Round 12.
The 28-year-old made 29 carries against Harlequins – more than any other player in Round 12.
No other player has made as many carries in a Premiership match this season.
With those carries he notched up 50 metres and on defence he made 12 tackles.
He scored a try in that win, while his Bok teammate Handre Pollard contributed 10 points with his boot.
Meanwhile, in that same match, Harlequins fullback Tyrone Green beat 12 Leicester Tigers defenders.
He also made the second most carries in the match behind Wiese with 17.
However, with those carries he notched up a whopping 163 running metres. He also added his name to the scoresheet with a try late in the game.
Former Stormers loose forward Jaco Coetzee had a strong performance for Bath in a 44-57 defeat to Bristol.
He made the most carries (21) in that match with 85 metres gained. He also won two turnovers in the 80 minutes.
Coetzee’s teammate, Bok prop Thomas du Toit, also had an eye-catching performance with 20 carries.
Both players scored a try in the match.
