Vermeulen receives four-match ban
DISCIPLINARY UPDATE: Jacques Vermeulen will miss his side’s next four games.
The Sale Sharks forward received a ban after he was shown a 20-minute red card for a dangerous tackle on Saracens scrumhalf Tomos Williams in the first half of a PREM match at the StoneX Stadium.
Despite the card, the visitors went on to win the match 21-17.
“The case of Jacques Vermeulen, Sale Sharks, was heard by an independent panel chaired by Daniel Gore, sitting with Mick McArdle and Olly Kohn,” said a statement from the Rugby Football Union.
“Vermeulen was shown a red card for a dangerous play, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.11, during a match against Saracens on Sunday 4th October.
“Vermeulen accepted the charge and received a four-match ban.”
Vermeulen will now miss this weekend’s home fixture against Harlequins, the following week’s visit of Glasgow in the Champions Cup and trips to Newcastle and Bath in the Gallagher PREM.
Matches missed:
11.10.2026 v Harlequins
17.10.2026 v Glasgow Warriors (EPCR)
23.10.2020 v Newcastle Red Bulls
31.10.2026 v Bath Rugby
