Bevington recommits to Ospreys
The 27-year-old came through the ranks at the region, via Porthcawl Rugby Football Club and the Ospreys age-grade system, and played Premiership rugby for both Bridgend and Aberavon.
His senior Ospreys debut came at the end of the 2007/08 season, away at Connacht, and he made his 100th appearance in a 26-12 Liberty Stadium win over Munster 13 last year.
To date he has played 112 times for the region, scoring three tries but a groin problem, which he has now overcome, has limited his game time over the last two seasons.
Speaking about his contract, the 13-timed capped Wales international said:
"I've gone from playing regularly over four or five seasons to not being able to do anything.
"It's been tough but the Ospreys have been brilliant looking after me, supporting me every step of the way.
"Having another year gives me a chance to get back in the picture and I feel that I need to perform for the Ospreys now.
"If I can get back to where I need to be then we'll have four players all pushing each other, who want to play regularly and that's good for the Ospreys and good for each of us as individuals.”
Head coach, Steve Tandy, welcomed Bevington's return to fitness and the news that he will add more competition to the front row next season.
"Ryan has been with us for a number of years and had a lot of game time as a youngster," said Tandy.
"He was always someone with huge potential but has been unlucky over the last couple of seasons, hampered by an injury with a prolonged recovery time that has restricted his opportunities.
"Over the last year or so we've seen Nicky Smith and Gareth Thomas really come through, as well as Paul James coming home, so Ryan knows he faces a tough challenge within the group and it's a challenge that only he can overcome.
"It's a big year for him to step up and challenge three loose heads who have been doing really well, but it's an attritional position and we need depth there as we've seen in recent seasons.”
Bevington is the 13th player to re-sign for next season over the last few months, while the Ospreys have also secured the services for next season of Crusaders back Kieron Fonotia as well as Scarlets and Wales prop, Rhodri Jones, and Dragons hooker, Hugh Gustafson.
