Blues bring their best for Cheetahs

Seven international players, including British & Irish Lions centre Jamie Roberts, will line up for the Cardiff Blues against the Cheetahs next week.

Apart from the numerous Test stars, the Cardiff team to face the Free State Cheetahs at the Grey College grounds next Saturday (August 4), will also feature nine junior international players.

South African-born loose forward Andries Pretorius, who is reportedly on the Welsh selection shortlist, has also been included in the touring squad.

This match has been arranged to commemorate the 200th birthday of Sir George Grey, the founder of Grey College.

"We are all looking forward to the trip and feel very humbled and honoured to be part of such a prestigious occasion," said Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby Phil Davies.

Grey College principal Johan Volsteedt said: "It brings great joy to us to be hosting this special game during this year when we celebrate the 200th anniversary of our founder, Sir George Grey’ birthday."

Harold Verster, Managing Director of the Free State Cheetahs (Pty) Ltd, was also excited about the prospects of the game.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to pay respect to Grey College for their huge contribution to rugby in the Free State and South Africa and for bringing international rugby to Bloemfontein," Verster said.

Among the international players that will feature in the Blues squad are Jamie Roberts (Wales & B&I Lions), Scott Andrews (Wales Under-20), Lou Reed (Wales), Macaulay Cooke (Wales U20), Tom James (Wales), Josh Navidi (Wales U20), Chris Czekaj (Wales), Dan Fish (Wales U20), Scott Andrews (Wales), Jason Tovey (Wales), Gavin Evans (Wales), Beniot Bourrustt (France U20), Ceri Sweeney  (Wales), Gareth Davies (Wales), Owen Williams (Wales U20), Dafydd Hewitt (Wales Sevens).
