Harold Verster, the Managing Director of the Free State Cheetahs (Pty.) Ltd, said they will be hosting a media conference on Thursday, June 27, to announce the new head coach of the team.

Speculation about who will replace Italy-bound Franco Smith has been rife.

Smith, who has been at the helm in Bloemfontein since 2015, will become the Italian national side’s coach following the completion of this year’s World Cup in Japan.

In recent weeks the names of the candidates abounded.

Stellenbosch’s Varsity Cup-winning coach and former Cheetahs assistant Hawies Fourie tops the list.

It also includes the likes of Paul Feeney, Jonathan Mokuena and Kennedy Tsimba.
