Injury drama for Leinster

Leinster head coach Joe Schmidt admitted his side’s 19-15 Pro 12 playoff win over Glasgow had left him with a number of worrying injuries to tackle as their double chase comes to a head.

David Kearney’s second half try proved the difference on the day and has left Leinster with the chance to become the first team since Wasps in 2004 to do a domestic and European double.

Jonathan Sexton inspired the Irish side once again with a 14-point haul to lead Leinster to the final in Dublin where Ospreys await after their 45-10 drubbing of Munster.

But after Brian O’Driscoll and Rob Kearney both sat out the semifinal; knocks to Eoin O’Malley, Cian Healy and Gordan D’Arcy also left Schmidt with cause for concern.

“Eoin doesn’t look too good to be honest. He has had a pretty rough knock on the knee, so he is going off to get scanned,” admitted Schmidt.

“We’ll have more information on him then, but it is too early to tell. Cian was walking fine by the time he got to the sideline, it was as much precautionary as anything else.

“He might have a little bit of inflammation around the ankle, but that’s it. I think Gordon D’Arcy just got a knock and split the top of his eye.

“I’d say after 12 years of professional rugby it’s stitching on top of stitching now. It’s just a case of the eye closing over a little bit. Your depth of perception becomes a little bit blurred so we thought that we were better off to take Gordon off and look after him for next week.”
