Ospreys and Scarlets set to merge

NEWS: Two of Wales’ most successful team are set to merge as part of a radical overhaul in Welsh Rugby.

A merger between the Scarlets and Ospreys could happen before the start of the 2019/2020 season and will be discussed by Wales’ Professional Game Board on Tuesday.

The impending merger is the result is part of a plan to form a new team in north Wales .

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Discussions over what the new combined region will be called and where they will play are ongoing.

It is also believed the new franchise will have a higher budget than both the Ospreys and Scarlets respectively.

With Scarlets and Ospreys combining it is hoped that Wales will have a stronger challenger in European competition.
