Preview: Newport Gwent Dragons v Glasgow Warriors

Newport Gwent Dragons solitary victory in their last six Pro12 fixtures was 23-13 at home to Leinster in Round 13.

The 'Men from Gwent' have won only one of their last eight matches against Scottish opponents in all tournaments: 19-5 at home to Edinburgh in the Pro12 last May.

Glasgow Warriors ended a four game winless streak in the Pro12 with their 27-24 victory over Munster in Kilmarnock last Friday.

Warriors only away win in the PRO12 this season was 35-30 at Cardiff Blues in November.

Glasgow have won their last three encounters with Dragons since the Welshmen's 24-23 victory at Rodney Parade in February 2014.

The Warriors are unbeaten in their last three trips to Wales in all tournaments and have lost just once at Rodney Parade in their last five visits.

Newport Gwent Dragons, Director of Rugby Lyn Jones has made four changes to the team that narrowly lost out to Benetton Treviso last weekend.

There is one change to the back three as wing Nick Scott replaces Hallam Amos and joins fellow wing Ashton Hewitt and fullback Carl Meyer. The centre partnership remains unchanged as Adam Hughes and Adam Warren get the nod. The halfbacks also remain unchanged as flyhalf Angus O'Brien gets the nod alongside scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius.

The front row sees the inclusion of loosehead prop Phil Price; he joins hooker Thomas Rhys Thomas and tighthead prop Brok Harris. The second row also has one change made to it as Cory Hill is joined by Matthew Screech. The back row has one positional change and one personnel change made to it as Nick Crosswell moves into the flank position alongside Nic Cudd and Lewis Evans is named as No.8.

The replacements bench has three changes made to it as Lloyd Fairbrother, Rynard Landman and James Benjamin join Rhys Buckley, Hugh Gustafson, Charlie Davies, Geraint Rhys Jones and Ross Wardle.

* Meanwhile Peter Murchie will make his 100th appearance for Glasgow Warriors against the Dragons.

Alex Dunbar, Mike Blair, Fraser Brown and Lee Jones all return from injury for the trip to Newport.

 

Murchie makes his 84th start and 100th appearance at fullback, with Taqele Naiyaravoro continuing on the right wing and Rory Hughes coming in for Sean Lamont on the opposite side.

 

Glenn Bryce continues at outside centre, with Dunbar set to make his first appearance for the Warriors in almost five weeks at inside centre, after recovering from a thigh injury.

 

Duncan Weir is once again named at flyhalf, with Blair recovering from concussion and starting at scrumhalf in place of Ali Price.

 

Jerry Yanuyanutawa comes in for Gordon Reid at loosehead, Brown returns from an ankle injury at hooker and after scoring a brace of tries against Munster, Sila Puafisi keeps his place at tighthead.

 

United States international Greg Peterson comes in for Tim Swinson in the second-row and starts alongside Leone Nakarawa.

 

Rob Harley is named at blindside flank, Simone Favaro comes in for Chris Fusaro at openside and Josh Strauss once again starts at No.8 and captains the side.

 

Gordon Reid, Zander Fagerson and Grayson Hart all return from the Scotland squad and are named amongst the replacements.

 

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "We're expecting a tough game in Newport tomorrow night. Rodney Parade can be a difficult environment for away teams and the Dragons will be looking to get back to winning ways.

 

"We've been boosted by the return of Alex [Dunbar], Mike [Blair] and Fraser [Brown] this week. They've worked hard to get back to full fitness and it's great to see them all back in the starting line-up."
