Maxwane has made 38 appearances for the Cheetahs and has been very instrumental during his time at the Free State franchise.

Hooker Joseph Dweba is another player who has left the Cheetahs for greener pastures. Dweba, who was a member of 2019 Currie Cup-winning team, has joined Bordeaux in France.

While, Sintu Manjezi joined the Bulls on July 1 and Dian Badenhorst have completed his contract.

The Cheetahs previously announced that Gerhard Olivier has hung up his boots due to a serious neck injury. A knee injury forced Justin Basson to end his professional career.

Basson was a stalwart in 14 Currie Cup- and 25 PRO14 matches for the men in orange. After 12 Currie Cup matches, including a Currie Cup win, and 21 RO14 games, flyhalf Louis Fouche retired from rugby and will be starting a business in Port Elizabeth.

Commenting on the departure, Cheetah Head Coach Hawies Fourie says: โ€œWe wish all our departing players all the best for the future.

“I would like to thank them for their contributions both on and off the field.โ€
