Scarlets signs Kings lock
Given the current situation at the Eastern Province Union and having failed to make the Southern Kings' Super Rugby squad, it comes as no surprise that he has opted to seek employment elsewhere. The former Golden Lions captain and Springbok Under-20 international, joins the West Welsh side with immediate effect and sees him represent the Scarlets until the summer of 2019.
The 26-year-old has a wealth of Currie Cup and Super Rugby experience, having represented the Lions, Southern Kings, Blue Bulls and most recently EP Kings.
Bulbring has established himself as a line-out technician and his arrival will be a welcome boost for the Scarlets, with locks unavailable through international call-ups, injuries and suspension.
"We are delighted that David is joining us. The potency of our backline next season is well documented but it is a strategic priority of our 3-year recruitment plan to ensure we have quality selection choices in all positions.
"David brings a wealth of experience in leading the lineout. He arrives just in time to add a further dimension and competition for selection during a critical time of the season," Scarlets general manager, Jon Daniels said.
From Port Elizabeth, Bulbring represented Eastern Province at the 2007 Craven Week. His debut for the Golden Lions, in the 2009 Vodacom Cup, resulted in him being called up to the national U20 side for the 2009 Junior World Championship.
"We're delighted to be in a position to welcome David to the Scarlets and being able to utilise his experience for the remainder of the season. Injuries have hampered us in that area of the pack in recent months and having a player of David's experience and high work rate join us at this all-important period of the Pro12 has a huge significance," head coach Wayne Pivac said.
