Scotland wing extends Glasgow deal
NEWS: Lee Jones has put pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal with Glasgow Warriors, which will see the 30-year-old remain at Scotstoun until at least June 2021.
The winger, who has earned 10 caps for Scotland since his debut in 2012, has become an important part of the Warriors squad since initially joining on loan from Edinburgh in February 2013.
He has gone on to play 82 times for the club and has scored 17 tries.
His most recent appearance in a Glasgow jersey saw him start January’s victory over the Ospreys at Scotstoun, whilst his two tries this season both came against the Dragons in September.
Jones also has the distinction of having played in three Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens tournaments for Scotland, having represented his country at Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018.
Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, Lee Jones said: “I’m delighted to be staying at Scotstoun, the brand of rugby the coaches have us playing and the atmosphere day-in-day-out make coming to work every day a pleasure.
“I’m excited to get back fit and help the squad with the final run in of this campaign. It would be amazing to make some history as a group and I really feel we are building something here and can be successful for years to come.”
Glasgow Warriors Head Coach, Dave Rennie, said: “Lee is an extremely impressive athlete and a model professional.
“He’s battled with injuries a bit the second-half of this season, but when fit he is one of the most lethal finishers in our squad and we’re delighted that he’s sticking about for two more years.”
