TRANSFER NEWS: Scotland and Glasgow centre Huw Jones appears to have made a dramatic about-turn.

Reports suggest he has turned his nose up at a lucrative Premiership contract in favour of remaining at Glasgow Warriors.

RugbyPass reported that Jones was in advanced talks with Leicester Tigers in November. Jones is currently ranked by the RugbyPass Index as the 8th best outside centre in world rugby with a score of 83.

However Scotland on Sunday report that Jones is set to snub a lucrative move south in favour of staying in Scotstoun.

Glasgow will have the benefit of extra funds released by the departure at the end of the season by Stuart Hogg to Exeter Chiefs, funds that could be re-routed into topping up Jones’ contract.

Over the weekend Glasgow coach Dave Rennie stated that Jones future has been decided.

“No doubt there will be an announcement [on Jones] coming soon so I won’t spoil that.

“I’m not sure [on the timescale], when I know I will let you know,” reported The Scotsman.

Leicester Tigers, who suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Bristol on the weekend, are looking for a top class centre as they prepare to lose Wallaby international Matt Tooumua.

In August Toomua put pen to paper on a two and a half year deal with Rugby Australia and the Melbourne Rebels, in a bid to make their World Cup squad.

There are also questions marks over Manu Tuilagi’s future the club. The injury-prone England centre could still demand a huge salary, be it at a rival club in the Premiership, the Top 14 or Japan.

The Edinburgh born Jones joined Glasgow midway through the 2017/18 season from Western Province.

The centre made his debut for the Warriors in December 2017, starting in midfield in a European Champions Cup defeat to Montpellier at Scotstoun.

His first try for his new club came in an 18-17 defeat to Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield, finishing off a flowing team move.
