Steenkamp to wait for Welsh debut

De Kock Steenkamp will see specialists this week to discover the extent of an Achilles injury sustained in training for the Ospreys.

The formers Stormers man signed with the Ospreys at the culmination of the Super Rugby season and moved across to Wales a week ago after completing his rehab in Cape Town.

However, he sat out most of the Super Rugby season due to a groin injury suffered in his team's 20-36 loss to the Chiefs in March.

This latest injury was suffered in one of his first sessions since arriving in the region last week.

Medical Performance Manager, Chris Towers, said that it is too early to confirm the damage and course of treatment.

"Having unfortunately sustaining the Achilles injury in training, De Kock will see specialists over the next few days so that we can ascertain the full extent of his injury.

"Only then will be in a position to discuss the appropriate course of treatment and any potential return to play date.”
