Taylor, 23, pens a new deal following a breakout campaign which has seen the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy graduate score three tries in 10 appearances so far this season.

The centre grabbed his first tries for the club with a brace in November’s 31-10 Challenge Cup win in Agen – where Taylor was also named Man of the Match – before touching down to secure a bonus-point victory against Wasps at Murrayfield in round-three of the European competition.

On re-signing, Taylor, said: “I’m extremely excited to be staying in Edinburgh. The club is really moving in the right direction and I’m looking forward to being part of that journey moving forward.

“I’ve really enjoyed this season so far and it has been brilliant having the opportunity to represent this city and this club. I can’t wait to continue to pull on the jersey in the years to come.”

Head coach Richard Cockerill, added: “George is another good young player who will continue to improve in this playing environment.

“We continue to build around a core of young Scottish players, and George is very much part of that. It’s great to see him commit his future to the club.”

Having come through the ranks at Borders side Melrose – where Taylor lifted the Scottish Cup in 2018 – the centre penned his first professional deal with the capital side in May of the same year.

Taylor made his Edinburgh debut against Munster at Irish Independent Park in November 2018 before making his first start in the 38-0 home win over Southern Kings in January 2019.

The centre has enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2019/20, featuring in all 10 games to start the season, while Taylor’s attacking abilities have also seen him grab three tries in the European Challenge Cup.

After crossing twice against Agen in a Man of the Match-earning performance in November, Taylor followed it up with an assured display against Wasps that saw him dot down late in the second-half to secure the five-point win against the English Premiership side.

The centre has represented Scotland at both U18 and U20 level – winning seven caps and scoring a try for the senior age-grade side.
