Toniolatti served one week
Zebre flyer Giulio Toniolatti has been found guilty of contravening Law 10.4 after receiving three yellow cards in the Pro12 tournament to date.
Toniolatti appeared before an independent Pro12 disciplinary committee, for the infringement of Law 10.4
The law is more commonly referred to as yellow cards for 'foul play', rather than yellow cards for 'technical' offences.
The disciplinary Committee, comprised of Simon Thomas (chairman) and Ray Wilton (both Wales), considered the match officials' reports and video footage of the yellow card incidents and listened to the player's representations.
Toniolatti did not seek to argue that any of the yellow cards had been issued by way of 'mistaken identity'.
He accepted that two of the three yellow cards, those issued in the matches against Benetton Treviso and Glasgow, had been appropriately issued, but he contested the third, most recent, yellow card, issued in the match against Edinburgh on April 24, for taking out an opponent in the air while competing for the ball.
Toniolatti argued that his actions had not warranted a yellow card on that occasion.
The disciplinary committee found, however, that the third yellow card had been appropriately issued.
The panel assessed the seriousness of each yellow card offence when determining its sanction.
Toniolatti was given a one week suspension, ending on Sunday 10 May, meaning that the player misses one match, against Connacht in the Pro12, on Saturday, May 9, however he has the right to appeal.
