Webb banned for stamping

Ospreys scrumhalf Rhys Webb has been suspended for one week for stamping on an opponent during the heated Pro12 derby against Scarlets on Boxing Day.

Webb appeared before David Martin (Chairman), George Spotswood and Tommy Dalton (all Ireland) following a citing for foul play contrary to Law 10.4(b) in the 71st minute of the match.

After Webb admitted guilt, the Disciplinary Committee found that the act warranted a red card and having reviewed the footage of the incident and heard submissions from the Webb and his representative, found that the entry point was at a low end and reduced the sanction to one week in view of Webb’s admittance of guilt and previous good record.

Webb will miss Monday’s game against Newport Gwent Dragons but is free to play on Thursday, January 3.

The hearings for Scarlets pair Rob McCusker and Gareth Owen, who were red carded during the match, will take place on Wednesday, January 2.
