'Ridiculous': Capetonians slam Stormers over 'season tickets'

SPOTLIGHT: Capetonians are feeling ‘ripped off’ again after the Stormers released the season ticket prices for their remaining games of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Stormers are heading north for a two-match tour (against Scarlets and Ulster) in the United Rugby Championship before ending their regular season with four home games.

That home run, which starts with a match against Connacht on April 19 and ends with a showdown against Cardiff on May 16, is a favourable sequence for John Dobson’s side as they chase a play-off spot.

However, some fans believe that their team is not showing them love when it comes to prices.

Earlier this month, the Stormers launched season tickets for that home stretch, which includes the “right to buy a Test ticket” for that match against the Wallabies on August 23.

The prices for that new season ticket range from R1000 to R1600 and it took some fans by surprise.

“Ridiculous if you ask me. I used to go watch the Stormers with the family when ticket prices were R60,” said Ivan Hendricks on social media.

Garth Rhoda added: “Rip off… not worth it.”

Meanwhile, some fans had an issue with the Stormers using the Bok Test as leverage.

“At Ellis Park for R1100, I got a full season ticket and I went to watch the ABs [All Blacks] Test match as it was included. No ‘right to buy’ business. Glad I live in Joburg,” said Jarryd Pauls.

Shaun Lewis added: “This bulls**t again. I wish you lot would stop this. Stop forcing people to buy a season ticket just to get a Springbok ticket. South Africa Rugby [SARU] should not allow this.”

In response to Lewis’ comments, Xolela Simo November added: “And it’s not even guaranteed that one will be able to buy that Springbok Test ticket.

“It’s a rip-off indeed. How do you buy a R1000 ticket for four matches? Crazy, what happened to the R60 tickets.”

Last year, fans labelled the ticketing process for the All Black Test match in September as “unfair”.

It was somewhat of a complicated process whereby one had to register to show interest.

“Cape Town was the only Springbok game where you had to be chosen to buy a ticket. The ballot is the biggest rip-off ever,” said Qaeed Govender.
