Bok lock to face DC hearing

Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth has been formally charged to appear before a SANZAR judicial hearing.

This follows an altercation between Etzebeth and Wallaby lock Nathan Sharpe in South Africa's 19-26 loss to Australia in Perth on Saturday.

Following initial consideration by the SANZAR judicial officer Mike Heron, Etzebeth will appear at a SANZAR Judicial Hearing after being cited for alleged foul play.

Etzebeth is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (a): Punching or Striking, when he appears to have made contact with Australian player, Sharpe with his head.

The incident occurred in the 25th minute of the match.

The judicial officer for the hearing will be Nigel Hampton, which will be held by video conference on Monday.

The Boks next face New Zealand in a Rugby Championship match in Dunedin on Saturday, to be followed by encounters with Australia (in Pretoria on September 29) and New Zealand (Soweto, October 6).

He runs the risk of missing the remainder of the season if found guilty.
