Waratahs keep young talent
The Waratahs' have secured the signatures of four of New South Wales’ top young rugby players – with Jack Dempsey, Hugh Roach, Jed Holloway and Jim Stewart all committing to the Waratahs in recent weeks.
Dempsey, Holloway and Stewart have each signed contracts which will see them stay with NSW until the end of the 2017 season; while Roach has signed a one year deal for the 2016 season.
The signing of the quartet will strengthen the depth of the Waratahs squad, with Dempsey, Holloway, and Roach already playing game time in the Super Rugby tournament.
Waratahs Rugby CEO Greg Harris said the signing of young, talented players like these would ensure the club’s development and progress under new Head Coach Daryl Gibson.
“The Waratahs are heading into an exciting period of development under Daryl Gibson, and it is pleasing to have players of this calibre committing to the club in their early careers,” Harris said.
“The development pathways in New South Wales ensure that we have a great supply of talent to choose from, and we are fortunate to secure these players for 2016 and beyond.”
Incoming Head Coach Gibson echoed Harris, and said there would be opportunities for young players to earn their place in the starting line-up in 2016.
“Talent and competition within a squad breeds excellence, and we’re really pleased that these high-quality players have signed with us,” Gibson said.
“Players who work hard to earn their place in the team will always be considered, and one of the characteristics of the Waratahs teams of the past few years is the internal competition that really drives us towards excellence.
“I’m looking forward to seeing these guys establish themselves on the rugby scene, and I think they will be great assets to our squad.”
