Ochieng takes Kenya Sevens reins

The Kenya Rugby Union have appointed Felix Ochieng as the new Sevens coach to replace South African Paul Treu who resigned last week.

 

Ochieng, who was one of Treu's two deputy coaches will remain in charge of the team for the remainder of the 2014/2015 season.

 

Former Springbok Sevens star Vuyo Zangqa and his compatriot, Graham Bentz, who came in as part of Treu's back-up staff, will retain their positions as deputy coach and strength and conditioning coach respectively.

 

Kenya has has a dismal start to this season's Sevens world Series under Treu, who resigned after their 24-5 loss to Canada in the Bowl final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens in Port Elizabeth last Sunday.

 

Kenya has managed only to collect seven points and are placed 14th on the log after three rounds.

 

The next round of the series is in Wellington, New Zealand in February next year.
