Olympic Sevens: All you need to know

SPOTLIGHT: Following the thrilling tournaments at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, Sevens will once again be on the Olympic programme at Paris.

The world’s best 288 players – men and women – will compete at the iconic Stade de France in Saint-Denis from July 24 to 30.

The men’s tournament will get underway before the Opening Ceremony on July 26, featuring France (host nation), New Zealand, Argentina, Fiji and Australia (top four teams in the Sevens World Series 2023 excluding France), Uruguay (South America), Ireland (Europe), United States (North America), Kenya (Africa), Samoa (Oceania), Japan (Asia) and South Africa.

The BlitzBoks were last to qualify through the repechage.

The pool phase and quarterfinals are scheduled on July 24 and 25.

The semifinals, classification matches and medal events are scheduled on July 27.

The women’s tournament will follow from July 28 to 30 – featuring France (host nation), New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and United States (top four teams in the Sevens World Series 2023 not including France), Brazil (South America), Canada (North America), Great Britain (Europe), South Africa (Africa), Fiji (Oceania), Japan (Asia) and China who qualified through the repechage.
