Charteris boost for Wales

Luke Charteris officially joined the Wales Six Nations training squad on Monday, making him available for selection for the Round Four home clash with Italy at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Newport Gwent Dragons lock Charteris made his return from wrist surgery for his region’s clash with Munster last Friday, his first game back since the 2011 World Cup.

The lock played all 80 minutes and came through unscathed, to provide Wales head coach Warren Gatland with another welcome option in the second row – as he prepares to name his team on Tuesday, for the penultimate match of the championship.

With Wales’ final Six Nations match against France in 12 days time a pre-Christmas sell-out, the clash with the Azzurri will be a final chance for many fans to see the 2012 outfit in action in Cardiff.
