Gray's season is over

Scotland's Six Nations campaign was hit by a fresh blow on Tuesday with the news that lock Richie Gray will miss the rest of the tournament with an arm injury.

The 25-year-old Castres forward, elder brother of international colleague Jonny Gray, damaged a tendon in his upper arm during Scotland's 23-26 loss to Wales on Sunday and will be sidelined for "three to four months".

"Richie Gray has been ruled out of the remainder of the Six Nations Championship with an arm injury," Scottish Rugby announced on Twitter.

The 45-cap forward's place in the squad has been taken by Glasgow's Tim Swinson, who turned 28 on Tuesday.

News of Gray's injury arrives a day after it emerged that prop Jon Welsh will miss the rest of the competition with a fractured hand.

Scottish Rugby also revealed that loosehead prop Gordon Reid has torn the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

"His return-to-play date will become clearer, and subsequently communicated, as he progresses in the coming weeks," Scottish Rugby said.

Beaten by France and Wales in their first two fixtures, Vern Cotter's Scotland host Italy in their next match on February 28.
