Injury cloud hangs over Roberts

Wales centre Jamie Roberts was left facing a battle to remain fit for the rest of the Six Nations after suffering a knee injury in a dramatic 19-12 win away to England at Twickenham here on Saturday.

Victory gave Wales the Triple Crown and left the World Cup semi-finalists on course for a Grand Slam ahead of home matches with Italy and France.

But the 25-year-old Roberts missed the whole of the second half at Twickenham with a medial ligament injury and it was his replacement, Scott Williams, who scored the only try of the match five minutes from time.

British and Irish Lion Roberts headed straight back to Wales rather than stay for the post-match celebrations, with initial indications suggesting the giant Cardiff Blues back could be out for two weeks — which would make him doubtful for the visit of Italy to the Millennium Stadium.

Roberts told his Twitter followers: “Incredible day….gutted to be missing tonight of all nights with the team..heading back to Cardiff to ice the knee..big two weeks ahead.”
