Murray back after wood-chopping gaffe

Prop Euan Murray has joined up with the Scotland squad ahead of Saturday's Six Nations match at home to France.

The big front row forward returns after missing the opening three Six Nations fixtures with a bizarre injury.

Murray, 33, put himself in danger of missing the entire tournament after cutting his thumb while chopping wood at a barbecue with his Worcester team-mates.

The veteran tighthead was still recovering from a leg problem he suffered in November, during which he won his 58th cap against Australia.

* Meanwhile, the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) confirmed it would submit a formal bid to host the 2018 World Cup Sevens.

Scotland were joined by the United States, England, South Africa, Wales, Portugal, Singapore, New Zealand, Spain, Netherlands, Fiji and Hong Kong in expressing interest in staging the event ahead of the December 5 deadline for formal bids.

Murrayfield hosted the inaugural World Cup Sevens back in 1993.
