The other newcomers – Coenraad van Vuuren (prop) and Shaun Adendorff (flank) – will be playing off the extended bench.

Marais said he is looking at give everyone a run in the opening warm-up run of the season.

Kotze joined from the Stormers, Maxwane is a former South African Sevens Academy graduate, Van Vuuren hails from Free State and Adendorff from Boland.

The run-on team will be captained by Nic de Jager, but Hanro Liebenberg will take over the captaincy when he takes to the field.
