Ackermann: A typical first game

The Lions ran in four tries and conceded just one in what was a "typical first game" against a side who made their Super Rugby debut.

"We looked eager and hasty and it felt like we wanted to do so well that everyone wasn't always at the right place. It was a typical first game. Credit to the Sunwolves, who played with passion and made it difficult at the break down.

"We are very happy with the win and thankful for the five points, especially having to have played in those cold and windy conditions. But considering that we still had a training session on Monday and then only a light session on Friday again because of the travelling, it was a good win.

"Our defence was good but we weren't always sharp on the attack," Ackermann said.

The Lions will now head to Hamilton, New Zealand where they will face the Chiefs, who are coming off a victory themselves – 27-21 over the Crusaders in Christchurch.

"We know it won't get any easier and we have to improve. The travel to New Zealand also won't make it any easier," he added.
