Ackermann staying in Lions den

Johan Ackermann has extended his contract as head coach with the Golden Lions for a further two years, the union said in a statement on Friday.

Ackermann will coach the Lions outfits in both the Super Rugby and Currie Cup tournaments.

"I am honoured to have had an opportunity to commit myself to the Lions for a further two years," said Ackermann.

"It is a great privilege to re-sign and I would like to thank the management for the faith that they have shown in me.

"We built up an exciting new team this year, which I have been able to work well with, and I look forward to strengthening our relationship over the upcoming years."

GLRU CEO, Manie Booysen, also expressed his contentment at having secured Ackermann as coach for at least another two seasons.

“The fact that we have re-signed Johan, and also offered new contracts to the entire team management and medical staff, not only shows that we are very happy with their performances but also proves the synergy within the Lions camp,” he said.

“We are all looking forward to a very positive and successful 2014 season and we believe we have a top class management team to lead the Lions to great heights,” added Booysens.
