Another All Black in the dock for cheap shot
Owen Franks of the Crusaders has been cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby match at the weekend.
Franks is charged with having contravened Law 9.12: Striking a player with the arm.
The incident took place just before half-time in the Super Rugby Round 14 encounter between the Blues and Crusaders at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.
Upon further review of the match footage, the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The Case is to be considered in the first instance by the SANZAAR foul play review committee which will take place on Sunday, May 20 – via video-conference.
This follows after fellow All Black and Crusaders prop Joe Moody was banned for just two weeks for a cheap shot on Waratahs centre Kurtley Beale last week.
All SANZAAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to the foul play review committee to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.
For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the foul play review committee.
