Anxious wait for Pocock
Star wallabies fetcher David Pocock has re-injured his left knee ruling him out of this Friday's match against the Hurricanes in Wellington. Doubts remain over how serious the injury is and how long Pocock is expected to be out of action for.
It is the same knee that Pocock had reconstructive surgery on after rupturing his ACL in round-three of Super rugby last year.
The extent of the damage is still unclear but Brisbane surgeon Peter Myers remains positive that the injury shouldn't rule out the big flanker for a second season in a row. More will be revealed on Tuesday when Pocock is due to go for scans.
Pocock tweeted optimistically about his knee on Tuesday before leaving for Canberra. "Off to surgeon to hopefully get the all-clear on this knee. Can't remember enjoying my rugby so much, really hope the news is good!"
Fellow Wallaby Ben Alexander also spoke positively about the veteran Aussie's chances of a quick recovery when he chatted to AAP.
"As much as it's a blow and Dave's a great player and we all feel for him, it's not the end of the world yet," said Alexander.
"He'll be back in a couple of weeks hopefully. We don't know, but we've just got to get on with it."
Brumbies scrumhalf, Nic White shared a similar sentiment, but spoke of the teams depth in the loose forwards saying that even though the loss of Pocock was a big blow, there was plenty of others who could don the No.7 jersey – including Lachlan McCaffrey, Jordan Smiler and current No.8 Jarrad Butler.
"Poey's a good guy to have in the team, but it's a real team effort," he said.
"We wish guys like that all the best with their scans, and you don't like seeing anyone injured, but we'll move on and we've got good guys who can cover him.
"Through someone's injury it gives another an opportunity."
Pocock is the second Brumbies vice-captain and back-rower to injure his knee in recent weeks, with power forward Fotu Auelua out for the first 10 weeks of the season after tearing his medial ligament in a pre-season trial.
