Bok scrummie easing into action
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Springbok scrumhalf Ross Cronje has complete trust in Lions’ scrumhalf stocks as he eases back into action.
Cronje has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since October 2018, making him missed the Springboks’ November Test Series and the Lions’ maiden win over the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.
The 29-year-old admitted it was tough not being part of the match-day squad for the first match of the season, however, revealed he will not rush his recovery period.

“It’s never nice missing any game but I miss just being in the team environment and having an injury for this long makes you hungry again,” said Cronje.
“However, I could be back a week or two. I’m not going to rush back I’m going to make sure I’m one hundred percent ready obviously missing playing with the boys,” he added.
Former Stormers scrumhalf Nic Groom has been the Lions first choice scrumhalf while Dillon Smit has provided an impact off the bench during Cronje’s absence.
“Luckily here at the Lions we’ve got good depth especially at the scrumhalf position and the boys are doing a great job at the moment,” said Cronje.
Being a spectator during the opening round of Super Rugby 2019, Cronje has become aware of how all the teams have improved in every department and warns that there is no room for complacency among any of the teams.
“The teams are getting fitter and bigger and stronger and better when it comes to skills and play so if you don’t rock up no matter who you playing in Super Rugby you not going to win that game,” commented Cronje.
