Bulls have an embarrassing problem

SUPER RUGBY REACTION: Failing to score a try in their first two games of the season is a massive concern for the Bulls’ coaching team.

The Bulls failed to score a point at Newlands going down 0-13 against the Stormers on Saturday. In the opening round of Super Rugby, the Bulls’ points came from four penalties and a drop goal from Morne Steyn in a 15-23 defeat to the Sharks in Durban.

The Bulls wasted several try-scoring opportunities against the Stormers and they will have plenty of time to find a solution to that problem ahead of their clash against the Blues as they have a bye next weekend.

“To not to score tries off the ball that we had and giving away too many silly penalties cost us in the end,” Bulls head coach Pote Human told reporters after Saturday’s match

“We need to score tries. With all that ball we had, we must finish and put teams under pressure.

“The Stormers had one chance with that maul and they scored and that was the difference between winning and losing.”

Apart from the Bulls not scoring any points, Human was pleased with the way his players took the Stormers on up front.

“I really thought our pack was a bit dominant, especially when Trevor [Nyakane] and Lizo [Gqoboka] were still on the field, so there is a lot to look forward to.

“There are three home games waiting for us now and it’s not going to easy, but it will be nice to be back at Loftus.” the coach added.

Meanwhile, Bulls captain and centre Burger Odendaal said his team needs to be more patient on attack to score those tries.

“I think we could have easily left with a win,” said Odendaal.

“We created a lot of opportunities and I don’t know if the guys are too overeager to get their name on the scoreboard.

“I think we just lost rhythm on our attack sometimes and lost our shape and if we just stick to our shape, we are going to get points on the board.”
