Bulls in for a world of pain at Kings Park

SUPER RUGBY SPOTLIGHT: The Sharks will be looking to right the wrongs when they face the Bulls at Kings Park on Saturday.

The last time the Sharks recorded a win in this fixture in Super Rugby was in 2014.

The closest they came to beating the Bulls in the last five years was a 16-16 draw in Pretoria in 2016.

The Sharks latest defeat at the hands of the Bulls came in Pretoria a few weeks ago in Round Four with the home side bullying the team from Durban to record a 37-14 win.

“It’s in the past, but we remember the feeling in the changeroom after the game,” said Sharks loose forward Jacques Vermeulen. “We knew how everyone felt, so we would like to change that.

“There were mixed feelings. There was disappointment, but also frustration as well.”

The Bulls’ pack laid the foundation for victory in Pretoria with standout performances from Duane Vermeulen, Schalk Brits and Hanro Liebenberg.

It is something that still bothers the Sharks, especially their forwards.

“I think as a team we have a bone to pick with them, but it all comes down to who is the better team on the day. The Bulls are a really good team,” Vermeulen added.

The Bulls are coming off an embarrassing and humiliating 20-56 to the Chiefs, but the Sharks are not reading too much into that match.

“Every team can put in a strong performance as they [the Chiefs] did. If you don’t pitch up, you are going to get points against you.

“I think the Chiefs came to South Africa with four losses and one draw, so they had a point to prove.

“They [the Bulls] had a really tough match, so they will come to Kings Park to resurrect their season after what happened in Pretoria,” said Vermeulen.
