Bulls make statement in 101-point match

PRE-SEASON REPORT: Jade Stighling scored a hat-trick as the Bulls gave early notice of their intentions in the 2020 Super Rugby season.

The men from Pretoria fielded two teams against two university outfits at the Tuks Stadium, in Pretoria, showing no mercy to their younger rivals.

In the first match of the day the Bulls ran out 40-0 winners, but it was the second outing where they really showed their intent – beating the University of Pretoria selection 96-5.

According to reports, the match was stopped ‘early’ by the referee, avoiding an embarrassing 100-point rout.

Apart from the Stighling hat-trick, hooker Jaco Visagie and flank Jeandre Rudolph bagged two tries each in a 14-try rout.

The Bulls raced into a 35-0 lead inside the first half-hour (42-0 at half-time) and continued the rout after the break – scoring another eight tries in the second half.

In the first match, the Bulls scored three tries in each half, Sevens star Rosko Specman bagging a double.
