Burger's Bok dream put on hold
Burger suffered an ankle in the second half in the loss to the Bulls in Pretoria last week and played through the pain barrier.
However, the 86-times capped Burger has now paid the price for his bravery and has been ruled out of the Boks' three-Test series against Ireland next month.
Burger, obviously, has also been ruled out of the Stormers' crucial Super Rugby showdown with the Cheetahs at Newlands this coming Saturday.
Stormers coach Robbie Fleck said there is no doubt Burger's international ambitions.
"I think he's always got those Springbok ambitions," Fleck told a media briefing at Newlands on Thursday.
"He's a quality Springbok and he approaches every week like he wants to play for the Springboks. I think the injury is a blow."
* Meanwhile the Stormers revealed that Daniel du Plessis will make his Super Rugby debut against the Cheetahs.
The talented young midfielder, who has been in excellent form for Western Province, comes into the team at outside centre with captain Juan de Jongh sidelined with a back strain.
Johnny Kotze moves to the replacements bench in place of the injured Huw Jones.
In the forward pack Sikhumbuzo Notshe will start at No.8 in place of Burger, with JD Schickerling providing lock cover from the bench.
