Cheetahs hold out hope for Peterson

The Cheetahs, who have a bye this week, face the Stormers in Cape Town on May 28.

Cheetahs coach Franco Smith told rugby365 that Petersen, who injured a quadricep muscle in the win over the Kings last week, won't be sidelined for more than 10 days.

"It is a grade one tear," Smith said, adding: "He is busy with his rehabilitation and we are confident that he will recover in time for the game against the Stormers."

Smith said there are no other injuries from the encounter with the Kings.

There is also an outside chance that the Cheetahs' Springbok Sevens player Ryno Benjamin – who has been sidelined with a long-term calf injury – could be cleared to face the Stormers.

"Benjy [Benjamin] has also started running and the next 10 days will also be important to him," Smith told rugby365.
