Crusaders lose their leader
NEWS: The Crusaders confirmed the extent of captain Scott Barrett’s injury on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old All Black has been ruled out of the remainder of Super Rugby Aotearoa and will undergo surgery.
“Crusaders Captain Scott Barrett sustained a significant injury to the structures supporting his big toe, while playing in the Crusaders internal game on Saturday 13 June,” said a statement from the franchise.
“After consultation with a foot specialist, it has been determined that Scott will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition to undergo surgery and allow sufficient time to recover.
“Exact return to play dates are uncertain at this stage.
“Alex Ainley has joined the Crusaders squad as injury cover for the competition, and Codie Taylor will take over the captaincy of the side for the remainder of the season.”
The Crusaders opened their Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign with a 39-25 win over the Hurricanes in Round Two after they had a bye in Round One.
They will next face the Chiefs in Christchurch on Sunday in Round Three.
